Introduction:
If you register Version 2.0, you automatically are sent Version 3.0.
So what does Version 3.0 do for you? First, it has some general
improvements, and, second, it has some new features.
Improvements:
There are many ways to generally improve a program. The program
can be made to run faster, the help screens could be more frequent,
and so on. Each succeeding version of QDCHECK (there were internal
versions that were never released to the public) has been improved
in this way. You can expect Version 3.0 to be smoother and better
working than Version 2.0. For example, there are improvements in
help screens and printer control. Altogether, Version 3.0 is
smoother, faster, and easier to use than Version 2.0.
New Features:
Most companies try to cram many more features into their programs.
QDCHECK is not a good program for this "creeping featuritis." Adding
lots of features just makes a program more complicated and harder to
use. QDCHECK emphasizes speed and ease-of-use, so I've taken a
minimalist view to adding new features. Of the features added to
Version 2.0, only one sticks out in my mind: comments. I don't use
them all the time, just when there is something unusual. A few
well-chosen comments can make all the difference in trying to track
down an error.
For Version 3.0, there are two new, worthwhile features: search
and analyze. Search lets you look for a specific transaction.
If you have a lot of transactions in your file, search can be a
good time-saver. Analyze is used less often, but is even more
important. It gives you a summary of debits and credits,
including the number of transactions and the dollar amount.
When you match your records against a bank statement, you may have
trouble hunting down any disagreements. You can use the Analyze
command, and then compare with the withdrawals/deposits summaries
on the top of your bank statement. When you've got a mystery
problem, this can make a BIG difference in locating the trouble.
Analyze lets you decide whether your problem is with deposits,
withdrawals, dollar amounts, or the number of transactions.
I hope this entices you to register and get Version 3.0. If not,
then you don't know what you're missing.
